Welcome!

The Conococheague Creek begins in Franklin County, Pennsylvania and travels southward for 80 miles to end its journey at the Potomac River near Williamsport, Maryland.  58 miles of the waterway are located in Pennsylvania, comprising nearly 73% of its total length. The Conococheague is a beautiful and important natural resource that provides recreational opportunities such kayaking, canoeing, and fishing.  It also serves as an important ecosystem that supports a wide variety of fish, waterfowl, and a diverse array of wildlife.

Goals of the Conococheague Watershed Alliance (CWA)

¨ To develop and maintain a reliable and skilled group of citizens committed to conducting monthly water monitoring along the Conococheague Creek and to expand this effort beyond the city parameters of Chambersburg

¨ To organize educational outreach programs that address issues relating to local watersheds, land and water conservation, as well as celebrating good stewardship of our waterways

¨ To influence local policy decisions relating to watersheds by offering healthy and sustainable alternatives to land owners and policy makers.

¨ To develop “model sites” for agricultural land users who utilize local waterways.  Provide farmers with sound alternatives to poor water and land management practices.
